shot shot shot shot shot shot

we had a quick bite at one of our favorite local spots, the overpriced, but tasty ootoya, next to my office for dinner. we shared their delicious tsukune with tare and bacon-wrapped tomato yakitori as starters, and kevin had the rosu katsu ju set (breaded and deep-fried pork cutlet simmered in dashi broth and wrapped with custard-like egg over rice) and i had the mini-soboro don (minced chicken with poached egg over rice).

oh man, soboro don is so simple, yet so delicious. this is definitely next on my list of dishes to learn after 肉燥饭 (braised pork belly with shallots over rice)!

after dinner, we headed to MUI in ktown for impromptu drinks with vince & shirley, and the rest of the cmu gang. vince and shirley got engaged in australia in december and it was our first time seeing them since, and my first time to meet shirley. it was so relaxing and nice to catch up with friends. it seems like there are lots of life-changing events for friends these days, whether it's the purchase of a new car, a new home, engagements, and destination weddings (although none of them having to do with us ha).

i love it when impromptu get-togethers work out. there's no anticipation leading up to them, no major expectations for anyone, and the spontaneity of them can often be countered with random acts of celebration.

shot shot shot shot shot shot!
