patagonia worn wear

happy saturday! :)

it was relatively cool, though quite humid when we started out our long run this morning. we were aiming for 11-12 miles for our first real long run of the season. and i've been having trouble keeping up with kevin on our recent shorter runs of 3-5 miles, so i was a little worried that i wouldn't be able to complete today's run.

i was pleasantly surprised that i was able to do the first half without too much trouble - i think the east side is easier and more interesting to run because there are less people as compared to the fancy pants west side highway, and i always feel a bundle of anticipation and excitement leading up to the bridges! around 12 miles, i started to feel the wall though. i had to give myself shorter goals like - just get to canal street, then to houston st, then to 14th street ... while kevin was actually speeding up and looking very smooth and comfortable. finally i let the inner child whining inside get the best of me and i stopped just before 14th street, completing 12.6 miles in total. kevin finished it up to the piers, which made me happy because i didn't want to ruin his workout on a day he was feeling pretty good.

it was around 9am when we got back to the apartment and we were off to a pretty good start to the day and weekend!

our next stop was the patagonia worn wear event at pilgrim + surf supply in williamsburg! if we weren't already diehard fans of patagonia already, this event brought us even closer to the privately-owned environmentally and socially responsible outdoors clothing and gear company. on their first road tour, the patagonia worn wear's biodiesel truck has been making stops across the usa repairing patagonia worn clothing and educating customers on how to make repairs themselves.

the message goes beyond just worn clothing, i think it's an idea that should be applied to all types of resources and things in life. rather than throwing out a jacket with a tear or hole, we can make simple repairs and continue to use the article of clothing.

in addition to the minor repairs to kevin's backpack, we were given the opportunity to select one piece of damaged clothing each and make a simple repair to it in order to keep it. i chose a black nanopuff jacket which i've been eyeing and a black nanopuff vest for kevin. my jacket had a slight tear near the zipper, which i patched up with a waterproof adhesive, and kevin's vest had a slight tear in the chest area of the vest, which he patched up with a black waterproof adhesive in the shape of an acorn.

what's a trip to williamsburg without a delicious lunch at okonomi! i can never get enough of their fresh grilled fish (i had the shio ocean perch and kevin had the tuna with sakekasu) and uni-onsen-tamago over brown rice.

i totally indulged today. i admit it. yuan, emily, and i got together for the first time since october, seven months ago! we carved out a few hours together to catch up on all the travels, home renovations, and career updates, and had desserts and tea at the laduree in soho. we shared the pain perdu, caramel tart, and raspberry dessert. they have a really nice open outdoor space with a little shade, which was perfect on this lovely saturday afternoon! we have to make sure we don't wait another 7 months to meet up again!
