pieces falling together

several months ago, we had made plans to stay at the front street guest house for this upcoming memorial day weekend. we received a reminder email about our booking last week and and were looking forward to returning for a few days to hudson, ny, where we spent july 4th last summer.

up until this tuesday that is.

on tuesday afternoon, i received a call from shannon at the front street guest house, which has been undergoing a major renovation since the beginning of the year, that our suite would not be ready by this weekend. i was upset, but the baby crying in the background tempered my reaction. and as disappointed as i was, i tried to stay calm and not "shoot the messenger". it was her manager's job, after all, to manage the renovation and notify us in a timely manner.

shannon was trying to research other accommodations in the area, but everything in hudson had been booked for the holiday weekend and we were looking at some pretty paltry options. with that said, i had read some nice reviews about the maple sugar suite, though the photos on their website aren't great, and was considering it as an alternative. two other places i would have loved to stay at were the mount merino manor (where we stayed last summer) and the hudson merchant house, but both had been fully booked for many months.

by this evening, i was considering staying in the city for the long weekend, when i received a call back from shannon apologizing for the upheaval and distress caused and assuring us that they have been able to push up the renovations and that our room would be in basic condition for our arrival on saturday! yay!

not freaking out for once had worked in my favor, and on top of it all, they're comping us :)

the pieces are falling together ...
