bbq'ing in tribeca

barbequing is one of those rare occurrences for most people in manhattan, unless you or your generous friends happen to have a private terrace or patio. when we were living back at union square, we were lucky to live just a few blocks away from my college friend, saied's, place, which has an amazing shared grill, sink, and outdoor patio furniture on the ground floor. we were there a few times last summer, and this past april when we hosted glenn's surprise farewell party, but no bbq's for us yest all summer!

until this past weekend!

our new friends, claire and gil, hosted more than a dozen of us, new acquaintances and old friends, at their lovely tribeca apartment and private patio. they have an intimate and amazing space, and have done a really nice job decorating the outdoor space with plants and a small herb garden. it makes me wish for outdoor space - one day!

it was a potluck barbeque so everyone got involved, which made the assortment of food and drinks fun! yvonne and gerry brought the MOST delicious marinated chicken, christine and bernard brought cheese and crackers, z brought dumplings (LOL), and we brought homemade guac and empire cake desserts. everyone was so welcoming and social; it reminded me of expat life in japan a bit :)
